
An Oshakati woman tragically lost her life after allegedly setting herself on fire in what police suspect was an act driven by domestic conflict.
According to the Namibian Police, the deceased, identified as 50-year-old Mohi Ud Din Zelda Lizette, reportedly poured paraffin over herself before igniting it with a lighter in the presence of her husband.
The horrifying incident occurred recently at Oshakati, leaving witnesses in shock. Police reports indicate that the act stemmed from ongoing domestic relationship issues.
Lizette sustained severe burn injuries across her body and was rushed to the Oshakati District Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later despite efforts by medical staff to save her.
Police have confirmed that her next of kin have been informed, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are ongoing.
Authorities have also urged members of the public facing domestic or emotional difficulties to seek help from social workers, counselors, or the police before resorting to self-harm.
