Havana murder victim identified as mother of three

The woman who was shot dead inside her home in Havana informal settlement last Friday has been identified as 39-year-old Rachel Frans, a mother of three.
Frans’ death has led to the arrest of 41 year old Benong Urikhob, who appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
The matter was postponed to 8 September for a formal bail application, with Urikhob remaining in custody.
According to Frans’ family, she and Urikhob had been in a long term relationship and had a child together.
The family further alleged that Frans had previously reported him to the police and had endured repeated abuse and death threats during their relationship.
Frans’ body was discovered on Friday afternoon by her 14 year old daughter, who alerted a neighbour after finding her mother unresponsive.
The neighbour reportedly found Frans lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to her chest.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are continuing.
