19-Year-Old Woman Arrested Over Alleged Abandonment of Newborn

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly abandoning her newborn baby girl in a toilet pit at Saamstaan near Tsumeb on Saturday.

According to Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the infant was rescued after her cries were heard, prompting members of the public to alert the police.

Both the mother and the baby were taken to hospital, where they remain under medical care. The woman is currently under police guard as investigations into the incident continue.
