A 25-year-old man, Karambuka Exodus Ndango, has been denied bail after appearing in the Ndiyona Periodical Court on allegations that he raped an 86-year-old pensioner in Popa Village, Mukwe Constituency, Kavango East Region.

Ndango made his first court appearance on Monday, facing a charge of rape. According to a report, he was remanded in custody, with the case postponed to 30 September 2026 to allow him to obtain legal aid.

The alleged incident took place around midnight on Friday, when Ndango allegedly entered the pensioner’s room while she was asleep and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The report stated that Police Crime Investigations Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu said the victim screamed for help, prompting her granddaughter to rush to the scene. When the granddaughter arrived, Ndango, who was reportedly known to the victim, allegedly fled.

Ndango was arrested on Saturday following the incident.

The court denied bail due to the seriousness of the alleged offence and in the interest of the public.
