30-Year-Old Man Arrested After on the Run for Killing Grandmother

Police in the Oshana Region have arrested a 30-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly killing his grandmother at Ondiyamande village in the Uukwiyuushona Constituency.
The suspect, identified as Alfred Shilunga, popularly known as “Kabila”, was apprehended at Oluno in Ondangwa on Saturday afternoon after an off-duty police officer reportedly recognised him while he was attempting to board a taxi heading to a local bar.
According to information available, the officer, who was dressed in civilian clothes at the time, quietly monitored the suspect’s movements before alerting fellow officers, who later moved in and arrested him.
Shilunga is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
The arrest follows the shocking death of his 83-year-old grandmother, who was allegedly attacked inside her bedroom. It is alleged that the suspect assaulted the elderly woman following a dispute linked to money he claimed was owed to him by one of his uncles.
After the incident, the suspect allegedly contacted the uncle and informed him about the killing before fleeing the area.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
