60-Year-Old Woman Loses Over N$67 000 to a Scam

Police in Swakopmund are investigating a fraud incident in which a 60-year-old woman from Ocean View lost N$67 428.70 after falling victim to a phone-based banking scam.
The incident occurred on Friday, 28 November, when the victim received a call from an unknown person pretending to be a bank official. The caller allegedly convinced her to share a one-time password (OTP) that had been sent to her mobile phone. Shortly afterward, the money was withdrawn from her bank account without her authorization.
According to authorities, the bank managed to freeze a portion of the stolen funds, preventing a full loss. However, no suspect has been arrested at this stage.
The Swakopmund police urge the public to remain alert and avoid sharing OTPs or sensitive banking information with anyone over the phone. The investigation continues.
