62-Year-Old Woman Dies in Violent Grazing Land Dispute at Omwandi Wonhala village

A 62-year-old woman lost her life during a confrontation on Tuesday evening in the Ongha Constituency, following a dispute linked to grazing land.
The incident occurred at around 18:00 on 27 January 2026 at Omwandi Wonhala village, in a field belonging to the late John Shitenda. Police identified the deceased as Ndapewa Gotrieb, a Namibian national from Okamukwa village in the Oshana Region.
According to police reports, the confrontation began after a 56-year-old man, identified as Moses Jonas Kaundinge, allegedly allowed his cattle to graze in the woman’s field without permission. The deceased reportedly went to the suspect’s homestead to address the matter and later encountered him working in his mahangu field while carrying a dry stick.
An argument is said to have broken out, during which the woman allegedly struck the suspect twice on the abdomen. A struggle followed, and police allege that the suspect grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the ground, causing her to die at the scene.
Officers who responded to the scene noted scratch marks around the woman’s neck, with no other visible injuries observed. The body was examined by a medical doctor in Engela before being transported to Engela Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The next of kin have been informed.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon. A stick believed to have been used during the altercation was recovered and booked as an exhibit. Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
