A 21-Year-Old Man Lost His Life Over a Bottle of Alcohol in Okahandja

A dispute over a bottle of alcohol turned deadly in Okahandja early Sunday morning when a 21-year-old man was stabbed during a violent altercation.
The incident occurred between 02h00 and 03h00 at the Aurora Primary School four-way intersection. According to police, the altercation reportedly started over a bottle of alcohol and quickly escalated into a heated, with the two individuals allegedly exchanging insults before the situation spiralled out of control.
Otjozondjupa police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said the victim was allegedly stabbed below the collarbone with an Okapi knife. The injured man, identified as Lawrence Gractia Haoseb (21), was rushed to hospital by his family. However, law enforcement officers were not immediately notified of the incident.
Police only learned about the case later on Sunday, around 12h00, after hospital staff informed them that the young man had succumbed to his injuries. The knife believed to have been used in the attack has since been recovered.
A 17-year-old boy has since been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Today, 24 March 2026. Investigations are ongoing.
