A 35-Year-Old Man Arrested for Killing 5-Year-Old Step-Grandchild

A five-year-old boy has tragically died after an alleged assault in Windhoek’s Prosperita area, with a 35-year-old man now in police custody.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday evening at around 21h00. Police investigations indicate that the suspect had been involved in a domestic dispute with his partner prior to the incident.
During the altercation, the man allegedly redirected his anger towards the young boy, identified as Romeo Pienaar, who is his step-grandchild. It is further alleged that the child was violently assaulted and thrown onto the ground and nearby railway tracks.
Emergency responders pronounced the child dead at the scene after he sustained severe injuries.
The child’s grandmother, who had been in a relationship with the suspect for about six months, said that the violence erupted after the couple had gone out to look for food. She claimed the argument escalated, leading to the attack on the child.
She also stated that she fled the scene to seek assistance and requested nearby residents to alert authorities.
Police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who remains in custody as investigations continue.
