The couple involved in Wednesday night’s deadly shooting in Windhoek had been in an on-and-off relationship since late 2019, family members have confirmed. Their relationship was marked by repeated breakups, with the most recent separation reportedly taking place on the morning of the incident.

Police reported yesterday that 33-year-old Abner Shilemba, an NDF member stationed at the Namibia Defence Force Training Establishment in Okahandja, allegedly shot and killed his former partner, 34-year-old Justine Metumo Nelenge, on Pasteur Street before turning the firearm on himself.

A 54-year-old man who had dropped Nelenge at her home shortly before the shooting was also wounded after being shot in the arm. The incident occurred at around 21h00 in Windhoek.

Both Shilemba and Nelenge were transported to Katutura State Hospital, where they were declared dead. Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
