Drunk Driver Arrested After Hit-and-Run and Alleged N$170 Bribery Attempt in Kavango West

A 33-year-old Namibian man has been arrested in the Kavango West Region following an incident involving drunk driving, a hit-and-run, and an alleged bribery attempt directed at a traffic officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at around 18:05 along the B10 road near Siko village.
According to police reports, the driver of a Nissan Tiida was travelling from Nkurenkuru to Rundu when he reportedly hit a cow at Matava village and left the scene without stopping. He was later intercepted by a traffic officer stationed at Siko village.
During the stop, the driver was subjected to a breath test and allegedly tested positive for alcohol. He was then informed that he would be arrested for driving under the influence.
Police further allege that the suspect attempted to avoid arrest by offering N$170 to the officer. The traffic officer rejected the money and immediately took the man into custody.
The suspect is expected to appear in court today.
