ECN Polling Official Commits Suicide After Alleged Attempt of Steal Petrol failed

An incident involving Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) polling officials turned tragic in Outapi after an alleged attempt to steal fuel from a generator belonging to the commission on Thursday resulted in a fire and the death of one of the suspects.
Regional Commander Ismael Basson confirmed that the group was reportedly taken petrol from a generator into a jerrycan when some fuel spilled onto the floor of a house at Aimele 16 location. The petrol is believed to have come into contact with a gas-powered fridge, causing an ignition that triggered a fire and alerted police officers nearby.
As officers responded to the scene, the suspects allegedly fled. One of them, identified as 33-year-old Samuel Shaanyenga, reportedly went to a nearby tree where he took his own life.
Police have informed his family, and investigations into the incident are continuing.
