A 46-year-old former cleaner at the Oluno Military Base has been arrested after allegedly collecting more than N$55,850 from people she reportedly promised to help secure cleaning jobs at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said Tayilombuele Claudia Hatutale was arrested in Oshakati on 27 August 2026 following an investigation into allegations of corruption dating back several years.

According to the ACC, Hatutale allegedly approached members of the public between 2015 and 2017 and requested money in exchange for helping them obtain employment as cleaners within the defence ministry.

The commission alleges that the promised employment opportunities never materialised, despite the payments being made.

Hatutale has been charged with seven counts of allegedly corruptly using an office or position for gratification, in violation of Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Act of 2003. She also faces seven alternative charges under another section of the same legislation.

She appeared before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on 27 August, the same day she was arrested, and was granted bail of N$10,000.

The allegations remain before the court, and Hatutale is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
