Fatal Shooting Reported at Otjisazu Farm During Anti-Poaching Operation

Authorities in Okahandja District are investigating a deadly incident linked to illegal hunting at Farm Otjisazu in Ovitoto. Police say anti-poaching security personnel confronted two men suspected of killing an oryx when the situation escalated.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects, whose identity remains unknown, was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun. He reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and is believed to have died instantly. The second suspect managed to escape the scene.

Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson and Community Liaison Officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, confirmed that the body was taken to Okahandja State Hospital mortuary for preservation. Police are still attempting to identify the deceased and notify his next of kin.

The licensed shotgun used in the incident has been seized and is currently in police custody. Additionally, two other suspects, aged 34 and 23, have been arrested in connection with the case and are being held for further investigation. They are expected to appear in court later this week.
