Fuel Tanker Driver Arrested at Katima Mulilo Weighbridge for Allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer with US$100

According to a police report, officers were alerted by a weighbridge operator who suspected that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol. Police responded to the complaint and escorted the driver to the Traffic Office for further assessment.
While at the Traffic Office, the suspect allegedly offered one of the officers US$100 in an attempt to secure his release. The officer declined the offer and confiscated the money as evidence.
The driver was later subjected to an alcohol breathalyser test, which recorded a reading of 0.23, below the legal limit. As a result, he was not charged with driving under the influence but was instead arrested on a charge of bribery.
The suspect, a 46-year-old Zambian national, is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court today.
