Karasburg Court Prosecutor’s Office Damaged in Suspected Break-In and Arson

Authorities are investigating a suspected burglary and arson incident at the prosecutor’s office at the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court, which occurred on Friday evening.
According to ||Kharas Police Crime Investigations Division head, Deputy Commissioner Mbango, unknown suspects allegedly forced their way into the office by breaking open both a burglar-proof door and a wooden door using an unidentified object.
Preliminary reports indicate that the premises had been left unattended after a security guard temporarily left to fetch his girlfriend. Upon returning, the guard reportedly found the office on fire, with the door slightly ajar.
It is believed that the suspects started the fire using toilet paper, resulting in damage to office property including files, an unspecified number of police case dockets, furniture, a photocopying machine, an air-conditioning unit, and curtains.
Police responded swiftly after the incident was reported and managed to extinguish the fire. However, the full extent of the damage has not yet been established.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
