Man Arrested After Alleged Rape of Elderly Woman in Kavango West

A disturbing incident has rocked the village of Sau in the Kavango West Region, where a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 65-year-old woman. The arrest occurred after the man was reportedly caught in the act by the woman’s family members.

According to Regional Commander Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, the suspect was found undressed and on top of the victim around 20:00 on Tuesday, 6 May. Both the suspect and the victim had earlier returned from a local shebeen, after which the elderly woman was offered a place to sleep at a relative’s home due to her inability to reach her own residence.

Further reports suggest that the suspect, who is said to be in a relationship with the victim’s niece, entered the room where the woman was resting and allegedly committed the assault. Police investigations are ongoing.
