Manhunt Launched After Two Young Suspects Bolt from Court Custody

A widespread search is underway in the Kavango East Region after two young trial-awaiting suspects escaped from police custody at the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The fugitives have been identified as 18-year-old Lukas Kambinda and 20-year-old Domingo Kambinda, both from Kehemu location. The pair reportedly fled moments after their court appearance, taking law enforcement officers by surprise.
Kavango East Police Crime Investigations Coordinator, Bonifatius Kanyetu, confirmed the escape and said it occurred around 15h00. According to him, officers were escorting the suspects back to the holding cells when the incident unfolded.
“One of the suspects had just made his first appearance in a case registered as Kehemu CR 77/03/2025, involving assault by threat,” Kanyetu explained.
He said the escape happened inside Court B:
“As officers were handing over the keys to unlock the holding cell, one of the inmates suddenly vaulted over the wall in the waiting area. His co-accused quickly followed. The two then climbed over the court’s perimeter fence and fled on foot. Officers pursued them but were unable to apprehend them,” he said.
Police have since intensified their efforts to track down the two escapees. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any sightings or information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
