Motorist Driver Arrested for high Speeding on B1 Road

Traffic officers have arrested a driver after he was intercepted for travelling at an excessively high speed on the B1 road near the Brakwater Weighbridge on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Traffic Law Enforcement Team, the motorist was recorded driving at 188 km/h in an area where the maximum permitted speed is 120 km/h. The offence was classified as reckless and negligent driving, prompting an immediate arrest in line with provisions of the Road Traffic and Transport Act.
Law enforcement authorities said incidents of extreme speeding are treated with zero tolerance, as they significantly increase the likelihood of fatal accidents. The driver was detained as part of ongoing efforts to curb dangerous behaviour on major highways.
With the festive season underway and an expected rise in vehicle movement, the Windhoek City Police Service has reiterated its warning against speeding and other traffic violations. Motorists have been urged to adhere strictly to speed limits and exercise patience on the roads.
Officials stressed that speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road crashes, adding that arrests will continue as authorities intensify road safety operations during the holiday period.
