NDF Member Arrested in Otjiwarongo for Alleged Motor Vehicle Theft, Stolen Parts Recovered

A 27-year-old member of the Namibian Defence Force has been arrested in Otjiwarongo on two counts of motor vehicle theft after he was allegedly found attempting to sell suspected stolen vehicle parts.

According to Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the arrest was made on Tuesday at a tyre repair workshop along Dr Libertine Amathila Avenue. The suspect was reportedly in possession of various motor vehicle parts, including car brand emblems, batteries, tyres and rims.

Police were alerted after the rightful owner identified the items and reported the matter to the Orwetoveni Police Station. Officers responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect at the scene.

The recovered items were later positively identified and returned to their respective owners.

Investigations further established that the vehicle the suspect had been using does not belong to him. Authorities have since seized the vehicle as part of ongoing investigations.

The suspect, who is stationed at Oropoko Base in the Okahandja District, remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court today.
