A senior staff member at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has been arrested over an alleged fraud scheme involving more than N$2.3 million.

Authorities allege that the administrator unlawfully cleared outstanding student fees from the university’s financial system after receiving payments directly into her personal bank account and e-wallets, effectively bypassing official institutional payment channels.

The suspected scheme is believed to have been carried out over several years, spanning from 2021 to 2024. Investigators say the manipulation of student accounts allowed debts to be marked as settled without any funds being received by the university.

The arrest follows an internal probe into irregularities within the institution’s financial records. Officials are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and whether additional individuals may have been involved.

The suspect is expected to appear in court for the first time today.
