Ongwediva Residents Chase Down Stolen Car, One Suspect Arrested
A swift community response helped recover a stolen Toyota Corolla in Ongwediva early Saturday morning, ending in the arrest of a 24-year-old man.
According to the police, the incident occurred in Sky Phase 1 after the vehicle’s owner, a 55-year-old resident, left the car parked outside a yard on Friday night when it ran out of fuel.
Police reports indicate that three suspects arrived at around 03h30 with their own fuel container, filled the empty tank, and drove off with the vehicle.
The sound of the engine starting is said to have woken the homeowner, who alerted others in the house. They immediately gave chase, resulting in a tense pursuit through the neighbourhood. The suspects later abandoned the car and fled on foot.
One of the three suspects was caught shortly afterwards, while the remaining two are still at large. The vehicle was successfully recovered.
Police investigations continue.
