Oshakati man arrested over alleged rape of journalist after she lost consciousness

A 51-year-old man from Oshakati has been arrested in connection with an alleged rape case involving a female journalist who reportedly became unconscious while at his residence in June.
According to the police, the woman allegedly became dizzy and weak after consuming a drink at the suspect’s home before losing consciousness. She later regained awareness and allegedly discovered signs that she had been sexually assaulted.
The matter came to light after the woman later discovered she was pregnant. She further alleged that the suspect gave her Misoprostol tablets, which are commonly used in medical settings for various purposes including pregnancy termination, after which she reportedly experienced heavy bleeding for about three weeks.
The suspect has since been arrested and is expected to make his first appearance in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court, while police investigations into the allegations continue.
Authorities have not disclosed further details as the matter is before the courts.
