Otjiwarongo-Based Magistrate Detained Over Alleged Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

A 35-year-old magistrate based in Otjiwarongo was arrested in Windhoek on Tuesday evening after he was allegedly found driving under the influence of alcohol.
The judicial officer, whose identity has been withheld as he is yet to appear in court, was taken into police custody at approximately 17:09 along Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Road, previously known as Otjomuise Road.
According to the police, a breathalyser test conducted after the arrest allegedly showed a reading of 0.68 milligrams per litre (mg/L), exceeding the legal limit of 0.37 mg/L.
The magistrate is currently being held overnight at Wanaheda Police Station and is expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow, where he will face a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
