Otjiwarongo Man Denied Bail Following Arrest Over 25-Year-Old Girlfriend’s Death

A 34-year-old man from Otjiwarongo will remain in custody after the court refused to grant him bail in a case linked to the death of his girlfriend.
Mathew Tauxab was arrested after his 25-year-old partner, Risaria Unibes, was found dead at their home in the DRC location on Friday. According to police, the incident followed a domestic dispute between the couple.
It is alleged that during the argument, Unibes struck Tauxab in the stomach with a stick. In the aftermath, Tauxab allegedly stabbed her once on the left buttock. No one reportedly witnessed the stabbing directly.
Police say Unibes’s sister, who was in another room at the time, heard the confrontation and alerted the authorities. Unibes was later discovered deceased at the residence, and her body was transported to the police mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators are still working to establish the exact cause of death and whether it was directly linked to the stabbing or other factors.
The matter has been postponed to 2 March 2026 for further proceedings.
