Over N$140 000 Stolen as Elderly Couple Held Hostage in Academia

A terrifying morning ordeal left an elderly couple in Academia residential area traumatized after unknown assailants robbed them of valuables worth over N$140 000.00.
Police reports indicate that the incident occurred on Friday, 20 March 2026, at approximately 07:00 on Plato Street. The victims, both pensioners, were reportedly confronted by male suspects who gained access through the gate of a secured yard.
According to the crime bulletin, the suspects allegedly held the couple at gunpoint, forcibly dragging and tying their arms and legs with electrical cables before locking them inside separate rooms. The intruders then made off with cellphones, laptops, and jewellery valued at N$140 000.00.
No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are continuing investigations to trace the perpetrators. Police have urged the public to report any information that could assist in the case.
