According to police, the case was registered under CR 39/03/2026 after it emerged that the suspects had submitted fraudulent sick leave certificates to their workplaces. The documents were reportedly presented at Grootfontein Police Station and the Grootfontein Correctional Facility.

Preliminary findings suggest that the scheme was orchestrated with the assistance of the hospital labourer, who is accused of helping to create and distribute the fake medical certificates, falsely claiming they were issued by Grootfontein State Hospital.
