Police Seek Woman Linked to Sergeant’s Killing After CCTV Footage Emerges

Investigators in Otjozondjupa have intensified efforts to trace a woman believed to be a key figure in the killing of police officer Sergeant Thomas Shigwedha, following the release of new CCTV evidence placing her with the victim shortly before his death.

Sergeant Shigwedha, who was based at the Okakarara police station, was discovered in June last year in dense bushes near Dr. Nickey Iyambo Street in Grootfontein. His body was found lying in a pool of blood, with post-mortem findings indicating that he was stabbed twice at the back of the head. Authorities also reported that his face had been severely battered, with a blood-stained stone recovered at the scene.

Security camera footage from the Grootfontein GRF surveillance system shows Shigwedha walking alongside a woman on Okavango Road moments before the fatal attack. Police say items seen in the footage, including a packet of chips carried by the woman and a soft drink in the officer’s possession, were later found near his body, strengthening the link between the suspect and the crime.

Law enforcement officials believe the pair may have traveled from the Omulunga location and are appealing to members of the public, especially taxi operators who may have transported them, to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

Anyone who can help identify the woman or provide relevant details is urged to contact Detective Chief Inspector Reuter at 081 272 2687.
