Rundu Suspect Accused of Attacking Sister and Raping Minor Appears in Court

A man arrested while allegedly seeking prayers at a church in Rundu has appeared before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on multiple serious charges, including rape, kidnapping and assault.
The accused, Richard Mukonda, made his first appearance on Monday before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu. He was denied bail due to the severity of the allegations, and the matter was postponed to 2 February 2026 for further police investigations.
Mukonda was arrested on Saturday, 15 November 2025, during a night service at a church in Ndama location, Rundu. According to police reports, he had been wanted in connection with a series of serious offences committed in October at Ncaute village.
The allegations include grievous bodily harm and assault by threat under the Domestic Violence Act involving his biological sister, as well as the rape of a 14-year-old Grade 7 learner from Ncaute Primary School.
During court proceedings, it was further revealed that in one of the kidnapping counts, the 14-year-old victim was allegedly held in a locked house for two days.
The case continues as investigations remain ongoing.
