Smuggling Suspect on the Run After N$5.2 Million Cannabis Seizure

A major drug seizure at the Noordoewer Border Post has triggered a manhunt after a suspect managed to flee authorities during an inspection.
The operation, confirmed by the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), unfolded in the early hours of Friday, 10 April, when officials conducting routine checks identified a vehicle for further screening. During the inspection process, officers uncovered a large consignment of cannabis concealed inside the vehicle.
Preliminary reports indicate that the shipment consisted of 103 packets weighing one kilogram each, along with an additional 500-gram parcel. While the estimated street value is believed to be around N$5.2 million, authorities say both the exact weight and valuation are still subject to verification.

In a dramatic turn of events, the suspected smuggler reportedly escaped from the scene while the vehicle was still being examined. Law enforcement officials have since launched efforts to locate and apprehend the individual.
The confiscated drugs and the vehicle have been handed over to the Namibian Police for further handling, with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Keetmanshoop spearheading the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in tracking down the suspect.
