Teen Mother Arrested After Newborn Rescued from Toilet Pit in Tsumeb

A 19-year-old woman is alleged to have dumped her newborn baby in a toilet pit at Saamstan location in Tsumeb, where the infant was later rescued alive.
According to the Namibian Police, the incident is believed to have occurred at an unknown time on Saturday. The baby girl was discovered after a guardian reportedly heard cries coming from the toilet pit and immediately alerted the authorities.
Emergency responders successfully rescued the newborn, who was then rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Police allege that the 19-year-old Namibian woman gave birth before abandoning the infant in the toilet pit. She was also admitted to hospital for treatment.
The reason behind the alleged incident has not yet been established. Police investigations are continuing.
