Tendency of Violent Crimes and Fatal Accidents Reported Across Namibia

The Namibian Police recorded a troubling number of serious crimes and fatal incidents across the country during the weekend of 08 to 10 May 2026, including murders, armed robberies, suicides, road accidents and drug-related crimes.

According to the police weekend serious incidents report, several people lost their lives in violent attacks and road crashes, while others were injured in separate incidents reported in different parts of the country.

One of the most shocking incidents was reported in Ongwediva, where an 83-year-old woman died after allegedly being attacked inside her home at Ondiyamande village. A four-year-old child also suffered head injuries during the attack. Police said the suspect, believed to be a 30-year-old man, is still on the run and the motive for the attack remains unknown.

In Oshakati, a 61-year-old man was arrested after allegedly shooting a police officer during an attempted arrest. The officer was rushed to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police also recorded several armed robbery cases over the weekend. In Oshikango, four armed suspects allegedly broke into business premises, tied up a security guard and stole cash estimated at N$200,000, including firearms. No arrests have been made.

Another robbery was reported in Klein Windhoek where six armed suspects allegedly attacked a couple parked at St George’s Mountain. The suspects reportedly threatened the victims with knives and stole cash, phones and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

In Kamanjab, armed robbers allegedly targeted tourists staying at a lodge, stealing personal belongings including phones, camera equipment and cash. Police investigations into the incident continue.

The police also reported several suicide cases in Otavi, Wanaheda and Karibib, where men between the ages of 50 and 57 allegedly died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. No suicide notes were found in the reported incidents.

Road accidents remained another major concern over the weekend. Three men died in a minibus rollover near Otjinene after a tyre allegedly burst, causing the driver to lose control. Several passengers were injured. Other fatal accidents were reported near Mariental, Onethindi and along the Trans-Kalahari Highway.

Meanwhile, police arrested suspects linked to drug dealing in Outjo and Oshakati after cannabis was allegedly found in their possession. A man was also arrested in Katutura for allegedly being in possession of a pangolin skin without a permit.

The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations into all the reported incidents continue.
