Three Men Accused of Defrauding Speaker Over N$159 000 Released After Case Withdrawal

Three men who were accused of defrauding National Assembly Speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila of N$159 000 have been released after the State withdrew the case against them.
Phillipus Iipinge, Lott Sakaria and Simon Simon had been facing charges of fraud, alternatively theft, in connection with the alleged incident.
The State indicated that it no longer wished to proceed with the matter, resulting in the accused being released from custody. Their bail money was also refunded.
The allegations stem from an incident on 5 June 2024, when Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was allegedly contacted by a person who presented himself as Riaan van Wyk from FNB Namibia.
The person allegedly used the false identity to induce Kuugongelwa-Amadhila to part with N$159 000 without her consent.
The withdrawal comes despite the investigating officer reportedly indicating that the investigation had been completed. However, the officer also told the court that a document related to the matter was still outstanding from MTC.
During their previous court appearance, Iipinge and Simon were represented by lawyer Murray Shikongo of Shikongo Law Chambers.
The withdrawal of the charges has brought the current proceedings against the three accused persons to an end.
