Truck Driver Arrested in Zambezi for Alleged N$1,000 Bribery Attempt at Checkpoint

A 35-year-old truck driver is in police custody in the Zambezi Region after allegedly attempting to bribe a traffic officer during a roadside inspection.
According to Detective Senior Inspector Muyumbano Manyando, station commander of the Menias Brian Libuto Police Station, the suspect is currently detained and facing a charge of bribery.
The incident occurred at the Kongola checkpoint, where the driver who was travelling from Zimbabwe to Tsumeb was stopped by police. Officers reportedly found that he had been consuming alcohol while behind the wheel.
A breathalyser test recorded an alcohol level of 0.025%, which is below the legal limit of 0.037%. However, the situation reportedly escalated when the officer prepared to conduct a second test, at which point the driver allegedly offered N$1,000 in an attempt to avoid further action.
