Two Minors Hospitalised After Explosive Device Explodes at Mavanze

Authorities in the Kavango East Region are investigating an incident in which two boys, aged 13 and 14, sustained serious injuries after an explosive device detonated at Mavanze village near Rundu on Sunday afternoon.

According to Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, the minors allegedly discovered the unidentified object near a military base before it exploded at around 17h00 while they were handling it.

The two boys were immediately transported to Rundu State Hospital for medical treatment after suffering injuries to their stomachs, legs and arms. Despite the severity of the injuries, both victims are reported to be in stable condition.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, while law enforcement officials have urged residents, particularly those living near military installations, to avoid touching unfamiliar or suspicious objects and to report them to authorities immediately.
