Walvis Bay Residents Warned of Fake Arrest Warrant Scam

The Municipality of Walvis Bay has issued a public warning following reports of fraudsters targeting residents through phone calls.
According to the municipality, the scammers contact people and falsely tell them that an arrest warrant has been issued in their name. Victims are then pressured to send money through eWallet or bank transfers to supposedly prevent being arrested.
The municipality has made it clear that these claims are untrue and form part of a scam. Residents who receive such calls are encouraged to report the matter immediately to the Namibian Police or to the Municipality of Walvis Bay.
The public is strongly cautioned not to send money or share personal or banking details with anyone claiming to be from the Traffic Department over the phone. The municipality stressed that no official traffic payments are requested via phone calls, electronic transfers, or eWallet services.
It was further explained that lawful traffic-related payments are handled in person, either at the Namibian Police offices or through the courts. In genuine cases, traffic officials follow formal procedures, which may include visiting the individual’s home or requesting them to report directly to the Traffic Office.
Residents are urged to stay alert and to confirm any traffic-related issues by contacting the Municipal Traffic Department directly on: 0811 25 0087, 0811 24 3423, 0811 22 0821, or 0811 25 0153.
