Weekend Crime Wave Leaves Three Dead, Minors Among Rape Victims

WINDHOEK – Namibian Police recorded a series of serious crimes across the country over the weekend, including murders, rape cases involving minors, armed robbery, housebreakings, and drug-related offences.
According to the Namibian Police’s Weekend Serious Incidents Report covering the period 29 to 31 May 2026, violent crime featured prominently, with at least three murder cases reported in Mondesa, Wanaheda and Epako.
In Mondesa, Swakopmund, a man died after being stabbed in the chest during a gang-related altercation on Friday night. Police said the victim was allegedly attempting to assist during a fight when he was attacked by an unknown suspect. No arrests had been made by the time of reporting.
In Wanaheda, a 33-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his 31-year-old girlfriend to death during a domestic dispute. The victim was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds to her neck. Police investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in Epako, Gobabis, an unidentified man was allegedly chased into a nearby house and attacked by three unknown suspects before succumbing to stab wounds. No arrests have been made.
The report also highlighted disturbing cases of sexual violence involving minors. In Katutura, a 26-year-old man was arrested after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl living in the same location. The suspect remains in custody.
In Ncamagoro, Kavango East, police arrested two Angolan nationals, aged 17 and 25, in connection with the alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl. The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
An armed house robbery in Academia, Windhoek, left an elderly couple traumatized after five suspects allegedly broke into their home, tied them up and stole firearms, ammunition, electronic devices and cash. Police are yet to make arrests in the matter.
Housebreaking incidents were reported in several parts of the country, including Swakopmund, DRC, Ndama, Onandjaba and Rundu. While some suspects were arrested and stolen items recovered, several investigations remain ongoing.
Police also recorded drug-related arrests in Windhoek and Omuthiya. In one incident, a 34-year-old man was arrested at Zoo Park in Windhoek for allegedly dealing in drugs, while another suspect was arrested in Omuthiya after being found in possession of cannabis during a stop-and-search operation.
The weekend additionally saw several inquests and accidental deaths. A 10-year-old boy drowned in an earth dam at Iihanguti Village in the Elim Constituency, while a Brazilian tourist died after a tour vehicle overturned on the C14 road near Walvis Bay. Police also reported a suspected suicide at a military base in Otjiwarongo and the recovery of the body of a man who had gone missing at sea near Swakopmund.
Police investigations into all reported cases are continuing.
