Government Injects N$10 Million Into Namibia Music Awards Ahead of 2026 Return

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Arts and Culture has committed N$10 million towards the revival of the Namibia Music Awards (NAMAs), which are set to return in 2026 after a five-year break.
The official launch of the prestigious music awards is scheduled for 5 August 2026, marking the beginning of preparations for what organisers describe as a renewed celebration of Namibian music and creativity.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti, held discussions with the management of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) on Wednesday as part of efforts to coordinate the successful hosting of the revived event.
The ministry has also called on private-sector partners and potential sponsors to support the NAMAs as preparations gain momentum.
Organisers announced that the revamped awards will recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions within Namibia’s music industry, with entries covering works released between 2021 and 2026.
To strengthen the credibility of the competition, organisers said modern technology, including artificial intelligence-assisted verification systems, will be introduced to help assess entries and ensure authenticity.
The return of the NAMAs is expected to provide a major platform for local artists while promoting the growth, recognition and international exposure of Namibia’s music industry.
