Namibia’s Miss Universe 2025 representative, Johanna Swartbooi, will step onto the international stage wearing a national costume designed to showcase the country’s cultural richness and natural heritage through detailed artistry and symbolic craftsmanship.

The costume places strong emphasis on visual storytelling, using traditional materials, regional influences, and iconic national symbols to represent unity across Namibia’s diverse communities.

One of the most striking elements is the Quiver Tree inspired crown and cape. The cape features a sunset depiction of the tree, paying tribute to its resilience in Namibia’s landscapes, while the crown incorporates beadwork and a diamond-styled centerpiece meant to reflect the country’s enduring strength and spirit.

The beadwork featured throughout the design plays a central role. Around her neck, Swartbooi wears a multi-colored necklace crafted from ostrich shell and traditional beads, each color symbolizing harmony among Namibia’s cultures. Her corset, decorated with intricate Khoisan bead patterns and flowing coiled beads, highlights skilled craftsmanship and acknowledges her Khoisan roots through its skin-toned base.

Regional cultural elements continue through the lower part of the costume. The skirt merges the vibrant patterns of the Caprivian traditional skirt with patchwork inspired by the Nama dress, using radiant blues, yellows, and reds reminiscent of Namibia’s oceans, skies, and sunsets.

Ostrich-shell Ondjeva pieces attached to the outfit symbolize purity and the hardworking spirit of Namibian women, while the beaded waist belt and front piece crafted by Khoisan women represent identity, heritage, and pride.

A leather front panel, influenced by Himba and San traditions, connects the ensemble to Namibia’s historical relationship with nature, hunting, and gathering. Completing the design, the anklets draw inspiration from Ovahimba and Ovambo customs, reflecting well-being and cultural continuity.

With each element intentionally selected and carefully crafted, Swartbooi’s national costume serves as a tribute to a united, resilient, and diverse Namibia—carrying the stories of its people onto the Miss Universe stage.
