Mexico’s Fátima Bosch was crowned Miss Universe 2025 on Thursday night, securing her place as the fourth Mexican woman to win the international title. The event took place at the Impact Challenger Hall in Bangkok, where contestants from around the world competed for the prestigious crown.
Côte d’Ivoire, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe were the only African countries to reach the Top 30, with Miss Universe Côte d’Ivoire, Olivia Yacé, proudly advancing to the Top 5. Namibia’s Johanna Swaartbooi also impressed, ranking among the top two in the online public vote.
Bosch’s victory comes after a tense period leading up to the finale, following a widely circulated incident involving a senior pageant executive. The confrontation, which occurred during a livestream earlier this month, centered around Bosch’s refusal to participate in a planned photo session. The exchange sparked concern among several contestants, some of whom reportedly walked out in solidarity.
The controversy deepened when one of the judges resigned, citing unease over internal disagreements and claims of unauthorized changes to the judging panel. Despite the turmoil, the Miss Universe Organization dismissed allegations of impropriety and emphasized that official procedures were upheld throughout the competition.
Outgoing Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark handed over the crown to Bosch, who stood out for her poise, confidence and strong performance in both the interview and evening segments.
Bosch’s win adds another milestone to Mexico’s pageant history and places her at the forefront of global advocacy efforts that traditionally accompany the Miss Universe platform. She is expected to spend the next year engaged in international outreach campaigns and charity work under the organization’s banner.
