The Ministry of Health and Social Services has clarified that the 44 mpox cases reported in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund are not confirmed infections. These individuals were identified through contact tracing linked to a single confirmed mpox case.

The ministry reiterated that preliminary investigations suggest the initial confirmed case may be cross-border in origin, involving movements within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging the public to follow recommended preventive measures and report any symptoms associated with mpox for timely assessment and care.
