Buyers and Business Owners Selling Nestlé NAN Special Pro HA Infant Formula in Namibia Urged to Immediately Remove It from Shelves and Stop Giving It to Children Amid Health Risk

The Municipal Council of Windhoek has issued a public advisory urging all retailers and business owners to immediately remove a specific batch of Nestlé NAN Special Pro HA Infant Formula (0–12 months) from their shelves, following a nationwide recall issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Services on 13 January 2026.
The recall concerns the 800g pack, batch number 51660742F3, manufactured on 15 June 2025 with a best-before date of 15 December 2026. Authorities warn that the product has been deemed not fit for human consumption due to a potential contamination risk.
Consumers, particularly parents and caregivers, are strongly advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to the point of purchase. Infants who have consumed the formula should be closely monitored for symptoms including severe or persistent vomiting, diarrhea, or unusual fatigue. Medical attention should be sought promptly, even if symptoms appear mild or are not immediately noticeable.
The recall was initiated after laboratory tests detected a potential presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, which can pose a significant health hazard to infants. The affected batch was distributed through major retailers and distributors locally and internationally from September 2025.
The Windhoek Municipal Council confirmed that it is working in collaboration with health authorities and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance with strict food safety protocols. Ongoing inspections and monitoring activities aim to prevent further exposure and protect public health.
Consumers are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow official updates regarding the recall. Retailers failing to comply with the removal notice may face regulatory action.
