Health Ministry Uncovers Suspected Medicine Theft and Stock Manipulation

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has launched an internal investigation following allegations of fraud involving staff members linked to the country’s pharmaceutical supply system.
In a media statement issued on 17 April 2026, the Ministry revealed that preliminary information points to possible misconduct within its structures, particularly at the Central Medical Stores (CMS). The suspected activities reportedly involve manipulation of stock records, as well as the theft and diversion of medical supplies intended for public healthcare facilities.
According to the Ministry, such actions may have had serious consequences on the availability of essential medicines. Authorities believe that falsified stock data could have contributed to artificial shortages, potentially affecting service delivery and creating unnecessary pressure on emergency procurement systems.
As part of immediate measures, officials suspected to be involved have been reassigned away from CMS-related duties while investigations continue. The Ministry emphasized that this step is precautionary and aims to protect the integrity of the ongoing process.
MoHSS reiterated its firm stance against corruption and misuse of public resources, stating that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies and other relevant bodies to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
Should the allegations be confirmed, the Ministry indicated that those responsible will face both disciplinary action and possible criminal charges in accordance with the law.
The Ministry further stressed its commitment to strengthening accountability within the healthcare system and ensuring that all public health facilities remain adequately supplied to meet the needs of the population.
