Rundu Town Council has revealed significant progress in addressing housing needs through the development of formal settlements in Sikanduko, Rundu aimed at improving living conditions for low-income households.

The council made the revelation during a recent workshop with members of Parliament, where officials outlined ongoing and planned housing projects within the town.

One of the key developments is the establishment of a formal settlement in Sikanduko Proper Extension 1, a Greenfield project comprising 510 erven.

The project is being implemented through a partnership between Development Workshop Namibia and Rundu Town Council, with a specific focus on providing affordable housing opportunities for low-income residents.

In addition, the council revealed that another major housing project is pending in Sikanduko. This initiative, to be implemented by the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), is expected to deliver 2,421 erven.

Rundu Town Council said the developments form part of its broader strategy to reduce informal settlements, promote orderly urban growth, and improve access to basic services.
