Woman Endured 22 Years of Pain After Doctor Allegedly Left Needle Inside Her During 2002 Surgery

A Windhoek woman, now 53, has revealed a medical ordeal that has haunted her for over two decades. She alleges that a surgical needle was left inside her body following a Caesarean section at Otjiwarongo State Hospital in 2002.
The object reportedly caused her persistent pain, repeated infections, and significant emotional distress throughout the years, only being discovered and removed 22 years later.
Following this revelation, the woman has filed a N$1.55 million lawsuit against the Ministry of Health in the Windhoek High Court. Her identity has been withheld to protect her privacy.
Court documents indicate that the case has been postponed to early next year to give the ministry time to submit its official plea. A mediation referral hearing is scheduled for 4 February 2026.
