Obama Encourages WNBA Stars During Surprise Visit Ahead of All-Star Weekend
Former United States of America President Barack Obama paid a surprise visit to WNBA players ahead of the league’s All-Star Weekend, offering words of encouragement and praise during a gathering at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
Obama commended the athletes for their achievements on and off the court, saying the growing recognition of women’s basketball reflects their hard work and dedication.
“All of you are extraordinary, and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of what you’re doing. Seeing people pay attention to your excellence has been wonderful for basketball fans and for the sport as a whole,” Obama said.
The former president also shared a light-hearted story about his own basketball experience, joking that he no longer plays full-court games to protect his Achilles tendon.
“I don’t run full court anymore to protect my Achilles. But I did play a game of horse—and I lost. I wasn’t happy about that,” he said, drawing laughter from the players.
Obama concluded his remarks by encouraging the athletes to remain focused despite criticism and outside distractions.
“Don’t let all this nonsense get you down,” he told the players.
The visit came ahead of the WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago and highlighted Obama’s long-standing support for basketball and women’s sports.
His appearance was warmly received by players, adding a memorable moment to one of the league’s biggest annual events.
