Sierra Leone Finance Ministry Says Parliament Expressed Confidence in Minister During Supplementary Budget Debate
The Sierra Leone Ministry of Finance says Parliament demonstrated confidence in Finance Minister Hon. Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura during deliberations on the Government’s 2026 Supplementary Budget, despite lawmakers raising a range of concerns and recommendations on the country’s economic direction.
In a statement issued after the parliamentary debate, the Ministry said Members of Parliament from both the government and opposition benches subjected the supplementary budget to rigorous scrutiny, offering candid criticism, probing questions and constructive proposals aimed at strengthening fiscal management and policy implementation.
According to the Ministry, several lawmakers also commended Minister Bangura’s leadership, competence and reform-driven approach to managing the country’s economy.
The statement said Members encouraged the minister to sustain ongoing fiscal and economic reforms, improve implementation and maintain momentum toward sustainable economic recovery.
Responding to the debate, Minister Bangura welcomed the contributions from both sides of the House, describing them as valuable inputs that would help improve government policy implementation.
“The concerns and recommendations raised by Honourable Members will be carefully considered and addressed,” the minister said, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to restoring macroeconomic stability, maintaining fiscal discipline and delivering tangible improvements in the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
The Ministry further stated that the parliamentary exchange underscored the legislature’s oversight role while highlighting the importance of effective leadership, sound policy implementation and constructive collaboration in addressing Sierra Leone’s economic challenges.
The 2026 Supplementary Budget is intended to respond to emerging fiscal priorities while supporting the Government’s broader agenda of economic reform, fiscal sustainability and national development.
