77-Year-Old Woman Appears in Court Over Alleged N$198,000 Fraud

A 77-year-old woman, Benignia Mudi, appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court this morning on charges of fraud, following allegations that she unlawfully withdrew N$198,532.58 from Bank Windhoek in Rundu, Kavango East Region, on 28 February 2025.

According to court records, Mudi allegedly acted with intent to defraud by falsely claiming entitlement to funds from a Sanlam insurance payout. The money, however, was reportedly meant for the children of a deceased policyholder, not for Mudi herself.

The case was heard before Magistrate George Matali, who released the accused on warning while police investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
