City of Windhoek Engages Windhoek East Residents on Service Delivery Priorities
The City of Windhoek has engaged residents of Windhoek East on service delivery and development priorities, with discussions focusing on infrastructure, safety and the improvement of municipal services.
The public engagement was held yesterday at Dagbreek School, bringing residents and municipal representatives together to discuss issues affecting communities in the area.
The engagement formed part of the City’s efforts to strengthen communication with residents and provide a platform for communities to raise concerns and discuss development needs.
City of Windhoek councillor Jesaya Ikali highlighted several areas requiring continued attention, including road infrastructure, street lighting, water and sanitation networks and other municipal services.
Road infrastructure was among the key areas highlighted, as reliable roads remain important for residents’ daily movement, access to services and economic activities.
The City also emphasised the importance of improving street lighting, particularly as better-lit neighbourhoods can contribute to improved visibility and a greater sense of safety among residents.
Water and sanitation infrastructure were also identified as important components of effective service delivery, given their direct impact on households and the overall development of communities.
The discussions reflect the broader role of public participation in allowing residents to engage directly with the municipality on issues affecting their communities.
The City has been conducting public meetings across Windhoek as part of its efforts to consult residents on service delivery and development priorities.
Its current public-meeting programme runs from 12 to 16 August 2026, with the municipality saying the engagements are intended to communicate priorities and consult residents directly.
The Windhoek East engagement therefore provided an opportunity for residents to contribute to discussions about the direction of municipal development while allowing the City to outline areas requiring attention.
Ikali stressed the importance of cooperation between the municipality and residents in addressing service delivery challenges and advancing development.
For the City, such engagements are intended to strengthen transparency, accountability and communication with communities.
The municipality has reiterated that meaningful public participation is important in identifying community priorities and ensuring that development efforts respond to the needs of residents.
The Windhoek East meeting comes as the City continues its wider programme of consultations with communities across the capital on service delivery, infrastructure and development priorities.
