COUNCIL AUDIT COMMITTEE STRENGTHENED ON ACCOUNTABILITY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

Members of the Ongwediva Town Council Audit Committee have undergone a three-day training programme aimed at strengthening accountability, oversight and good governance within the local authority.
The training was facilitated by the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) and took place from 5 to 7 August 2026 in Windhoek.
The committee is chaired by the Council’s Management Committee Chairperson, Cllr. Juliana Haimbodi, with Cllr. Jason Mwalengwa and Cllr. Priskila Hailulu serving as members.
The Audit Committee serves as an independent oversight and advisory structure within the Council, with responsibilities that include promoting accountability, transparency, sound financial management, risk management and good governance.
The training forms part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance the committee’s ability to effectively carry out its oversight responsibilities.
The Council said strengthening these areas is essential to promoting sound governance and accountability while supporting the delivery of quality services to the Ongwediva community.
